LAST Weekly News: June 5th-7th


LAST Weekly News!!!

We have had so much fun together this past week. We have been playing fun games, having our friends read to us, cleaning up our classroom, and working on fun projects. We even got to visit a first grade classroom and learned what it is going to be like in first grade next year! Your child came home with their bag on Friday full of stuff!

Only 3 more days left! Here is what we'll be doing:


Monday, June 5th:  Pajama Day!  Wear your favorite pajamas to school. We will have a fun assembly in the morning, then relax and read and play games together. 

Tuesday, June 6th: BSC Field Day. We are having a school FIELD DAY with all of kindergarten, first and second grades, and TK friends! We will rotate through fun centers outside in the morning.Our field day begins at 8:15 if you would like to join us. Please dress your child in comfortable clothes (they MAY get wet) and comfortable shoes they can run in. You may also want to put sunscreen on your child in the morning because we will be outside for a few hours. Thank you so much for your support!

Wednesday, June 7th: Last Day of Kindergarten Celebration. We will have a very special last day of school KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOM CELEBRATION on this day. We invite you to join us at 11:00 as we sing some special songs, read our last book together as a class, look through our memory books and our writing progress, and watch our "Kindergarten Movie". We will also be having our big end of the school year assembly at 8:10 on this morning, so mark your calendars for a full day of events!!

Weekly News & Homework: May 30th-June 2nd

7 More Days!


I hope you had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend with your families. Can you believe we only have seven more days of kindergarten?? The students have been working SO HARD learning this year that we would like to enjoy our last 7 days together doing fun end-of-the-year projects, playing games, reading our favorite books together, and writing about everything we have learned in kindergarten and how much we have grown! 

There will be no more book bags coming home this week and this will be our LAST WEEK for bags. On Friday, your kiddos are coming home with lots of our kindergarten work, kindergarten folders, and special projects. 

Report cards will be coming home on the last day of school. I hope that you continue to read, study those flashcards, write, and practice math over the summer so that you are even more prepared to be a first grader. I also wanted to let you know that Smarty Ants and Dreambox will be open during the summer, so you can continue to enjoy those programs at home!

Weekly News & Homework: May 22nd-26th


Each child took his or her plant pal home on Friday. Make sure to give it plenty of water, sun, and air so it will grow!

This week we are learning all about the seasons and weather. 

We are done with Success Academy for the year and this is the last week of electives. 

There is no school Monday, May 29th due to Memorial Day. Have a nice three day weekend with your families. 

Last week was our last week of turn-in homework. This week will be our last week learning new sight words, math tests, and our last week for book bags. Please keep reading, writing, practicing those flashcards, and logging onto Smarty Ants and Dreambox so that you are well-prepared for first grade. What a great year of homework is has been!

What Are We Learning This Week?:

Sight Words: SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, WINTER, WEATHER (We will not have a spelling test on these! We are just learning these words as we learn about our seasons and weather!)

Reading: This week we are reading about different kinds of weather and how weather changes through our four seasons.

Writing: This week we will write all about weather and seasons, as well as work on our special end of the year writing project. 

Math: We are having so much fun playing math games and reviewing all the concepts we've been learning all year long.

Leadership: We will continue to ROAR!

Weekly News & Homework: May 15-19th


Can you believe that we only have three more full weeks left of kindergarten?! This year and my time with the students has flown by! I am amazed and so proud of how each and every student has grown and at how they have grown as a class. I am looking forward to having a fun-filled last few weeks together.

We enjoyed honoring our mothers on Friday at our Mother’s Day Celebration.  Thank you for joining us for this very special day.  I hope all of you wonderful mothers enjoyed your day and had a lovely Mother's Day weekend.

This week we are studying and learning all about plants. Students will be planting their own little "potted plant pal" to take home on Friday. 

Success Academy is done for the year.

What Are We Learning This Week?:

Sight Words: VERY, EVERY, ABOVE, BELOW, ALWAYS 

Letter Team: There are NO new letter teams! Remember to practice ALL letter teams so that you are well-prepared for first grade.

Reading: We will continue reading and learning all about plants. We are learning the different parts of plants and also what plants need to survive. 

Writing: The students have been doing an excellent job with 8 sentences paragraphs, including explanations! I am so proud. This week, we will write about plants. 

Math: We are finishing up our unit on addition and subtraction, continuing to work on ways to make 10 and fluency through five, and sharpening our math skills.

Leadership: We will continue to ROAR and discuss what it means to have a growth mindset!

Homework: May 15-19

Flashcards: VERY, EVERY, ABOVE, BELOW, ALWAYS. Study all sight word and letter team flashcards. I will begin our end of the year assessments next week. 

Phonemic Awareness: Please work with your child on the following Phonemic Awareness skills - rhyming, blending, segmenting, syllables, and beginning/middle/ending sounds. Please see our Phonemic Awareness tab for ideas and tips. Please check your child's report card from first trimester and see the Foundational Skills areas where they may still need support. 

Reading: Play Smarty Ants for 10-15 minutes each night. In addition to Smarty Ants, we ask that you read your Book Bag every night. This includes: fluency passage, paper books, and library books. 

Writing: Practice writing EVERY day in your at-home journal. Our goal for all students now is writing five to eight sentences every day. 

Math: Play Dreambox for 10-15 minutes each night. Continue to discuss ways to make 5 (and ways to make 10!), numbers in base ten (in the number 16, how many tens and how many ones?), addition and subtraction number problems and word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, and the Doubles Song. Count the money in your wallet.

Turn-In Homework: This is our LAST week of Turn-In homework! This week, please write five-eight sentences about what you have learned in kindergarten this year. Draw a picture to go with your sentences.

Weekly News & Homework: May 8th-12th

Thank you all so much for all of the sweet notes, cards, flowers, treats, school supplies, and goodies for Teacher Appreciation Week! I feel so appreciated! I am so grateful for such a wonderful class. It has truly been such a fun year with you all!

We have had so much fun watching our caterpillars get bigger and bigger as we learn about their metamorphosis. This morning, 3 of them were in a chrysalis! 

The kids did a fantastic job sharing their community service projects!  It is wonderful to see the caring and giving our young students are participating in.  Thank you parents for all of your support!!

Our field trip is THIS Tuesday, May 9th! We will leave the school by bus first thing in the morning and we will be returning by dismissal. We will be providing snacks for each child, so you will not need to bring a snack (or a folder!) on this day. We are looking forward to a fun last kindergarten field trip together! 

We are excited for our very special Mother's Day centers on Friday. We will begin RIGHT AT 11:00 so please plan on arriving by then. The students have some special songs prepared. There will be activities, games, and even a snack! Hope you are able to make it! Please remember to arrange childcare for your little ones so that this can be a very special time between you and your kindergartner :)

Save the Date: We will have a last day of school KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOM CELEBRATION on Wednesday, June 7th at 11:00.  You will not want to miss this! Please mark your calendar and plan on joining us at the end of the day.

Letter Team:  Keep reviewing all of your letter teams learned in kindergarten! End of the year assessments will be taking place in a few weeks!

Reading: We will begin reading books about plants and how they grow. 

Writing: We will begin writing about plants and how they grow. 

Math: We are working hard on decomposing, composing, addition, and subtraction through many fun math games! Please continue to reinforce these skills at home. 

Leadership: We will continue to ROAR and discuss what it means to have a growth mindset!

Homework: May 8-12

Weekly News & Homework: May 1st-5th


We are very excited to introduce our new class pets for the next few weeks: caterpillars! We will have the opportunity to watch their metamorphosis as they change from caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly!

IT'S TIME! Community Service Projects are due and will be presented THIS WEEK! Please send projects in any day THIS WEEK, May 1 - May 5. Please make sure projects are turned in NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, May 5th. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT AND TURN IN PROJECTS ON FRIDAY.  EACH STUDENT WILL BE SHARING WITH THE CLASS.  IF THEY ALL COME IN ON FRIDAY IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO SHARE THEM ALL! Remember that your community service project is a required part of our curriculum at Inland Leaders.  I am looking forward to seeing all of the projects. Thank you!

Our next kindergarten field trip is scheduled for NEXT Tuesday, May 9th. We will be going to the Lewis Family Playhouse Theater in Rancho Cucamonga to see "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". We will leave the school by bus first thing in the morning and we will be returning by dismissal. We will be providing snacks for each child, so you will not need to bring a snack (or a folder/bag!) on this day. Because we have already purchased tickets for the show in advance, we unfortunately cannot take any extra parent chaperones. Thank you for your understanding. Permission slips went home last week - please return these ASAP if you have not already done so! We are looking forward to a fun last kindergarten field trip together! 

Save The Date: We will be having a very special Mother's Day celebration on Friday, May 12 from 11:00-12:30. More information to come. I wanted to let you know early in case you need to take the time off work or find childcare for little ones. The school childcare fills up quickly on this day and is on a first come first serve basis.  I encourage you to find childcare for your little ones since this is a special celebration for mommies and their kindergarten student.  Thank you in advance for your understanding.  This is SUCH a special celebration and we hope all of you mommies are able to make it!

Letter Team:  There are NO new letter teams! For the rest of the year, we will be reviewing all letter teams that we have learned this year. The expectation is that students recognize the letter team within our three second rule, then be able to apply that letter team when decoding an unknown word

Reading: We will read books about caterpillars and butterflies as we study their life cycle. 

Writing: We will have a very special writing project that we will begin working on this week in class - make sure that you have saved the date for our Mother's Day Celebration (wink, wink!)

Math: Play Dreambox for 10-15 minutes each night. Continue to discuss ways to make 5 (and ways to make 10!), numbers in base ten (in the number 16, how many tens and how many ones?), addition and subtraction number problems and word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, and the Doubles Song. Count the money in your bank.

Weekly News & Homework: April 24th-April 28th





The kids did such a great job at the Apex Fun Run! Thank you to all the parents who came to cheer us on! It was so much fun :)  

IT'S TIME! Community Service Projects are due and will be presented NEXT WEEK! There is no turn-in homework this week - please take this opportunity to work on your projects and presentations. Please send projects in any day NEXT WEEK, May 1 - May 5. Please make sure projects are turned in NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, May 5th. Remember that your community service project is a required part of our curriculum at Inland Leaders.  I am looking forward to seeing all of the projects. Thank you!

What Are We Learning This Week?:
Sight Words: MOTHER, FATHER, SISTER, BROTHER, FAMILY.

Letter Team:  There are NO new letter teams! For the rest of the year, we will be reviewing all letter teams that we have learned this year. The expectation is that students recognize the letter team within our three second rule, then be able to apply that letter team when decoding an unknown word

Reading: We will read books about frogs as we learn the life cycle of a tadpole.

Writing: We will continue to work on our writing goals, including adding details to our stories. 

Math: We are working hard on ways to make 10, decomposing, composing, and addition and subtraction through many fun math games! Please continue to reinforce these skills at home. 

Leadership: We will continue to ROAR and discuss what it means to have a growth mindset!

Homework: April 24-28
