Thank you all so much for all of the sweet notes, cards, flowers, treats, school supplies, and goodies for Teacher Appreciation Week! I feel so appreciated! I am so grateful for such a wonderful class. It has truly been such a fun year with you all!
We have had so much fun watching our caterpillars get bigger and bigger as we learn about their metamorphosis. This morning, 3 of them were in a chrysalis!
The kids did a fantastic job sharing their community service projects! It is wonderful to see the caring and giving our young students are participating in. Thank you parents for all of your support!!
Our field trip is THIS Tuesday, May 9th! We will leave the school by bus first thing in the morning and we will be returning by dismissal. We will be providing snacks for each child, so you will not need to bring a snack (or a folder!) on this day. We are looking forward to a fun last kindergarten field trip together!
We are excited for our very special Mother's Day centers on Friday. We will begin RIGHT AT 11:00 so please plan on arriving by then. The students have some special songs prepared. There will be activities, games, and even a snack! Hope you are able to make it! Please remember to arrange childcare for your little ones so that this can be a very special time between you and your kindergartner :)

What Are We Learning This Week?:
Sight Words: HIS, HER, HAD, GET, THESE.
Letter Team: Keep reviewing all of your letter teams learned in kindergarten! End of the year assessments will be taking place in a few weeks!
Reading: We will begin reading books about plants and how they grow.
Writing: We will begin writing about plants and how they grow.
Math: We are working hard on decomposing, composing, addition, and subtraction through many fun math games! Please continue to reinforce these skills at home.
Leadership: We will continue to ROAR and discuss what it means to have a growth mindset!
Homework: May 8-12
Flashcards: Don't forget to make new flashcards for each sight word and letter team. New words for this week are: HIS, HER, HAD, GET, THESE. There are NO new letter teams for the rest of the year - so study ALL old letter team flashcards!
Phonemic Awareness: Please work with your child on the following Phonemic Awareness skills - rhyming, blending, segmenting, syllables, and beginning/middle/ending sounds. Please check your child's report card and see the Foundational Skills areas where they may still need support.
Reading: Play Smarty Ants for 10-15 minutes each night. In addition to Smarty Ants, we ask that you read your Book Bag every night. This includes: fluency passage, paper books, and library books.
Writing: Practice writing EVERY day in your at-home journal. Our goal for all students now is writing five to eight sentences every day.
Math: Play Dreambox for 10-15 minutes each night. Continue to discuss ways to make 5 (and ways to make 10!), numbers in base ten (in the number 16, how many tens and how many ones?), addition and subtraction number problems and word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, and the Doubles Song. Count the money in your wallet.
Turn-In Homework: This week, please write and turn in five to eight sentences about what we have learned about caterpillars and butterflies.
