What Are We Learning This Week?:
Sight Words: ANY, MANY, BUT, WERE, PEOPLE.
Letter Team: We will revisit and focus on all of our "2 Vowels Go Walking" this week. The rule is "when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking, by saying it's name!" You can help your child with this by making flashcards for AI, EA, OA, OE, and UI. We will work on decoding words with this rule - like RAIN, LEAF, GOAT, TOE, and FRUIT.
Reading: For the next two weeks, we will read books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Writing: We will continue practicing writing a Step Up to Writing paragraph with a topic sentence, three things about that topic, and a conclusion sentence. All students have specific writing goals that they are working on each day.
Math: This week, I will begin assessing students on all the math concepts we have learned so far, including numbers, shapes, measurement, fluency facts through 5, addition and subtraction, and base ten place value. Thank you for practicing and reinforcing these skills at home!
Leadership: We will continue to ROAR and discuss what it means to have a growth mindset!
Homework: February 13-17
Flashcards: Don't forget to make new flashcards for each sight word and letter team. New words for this week are: ANY, MANY, BUT, WERE, PEOPLE and new letter teams are our two vowels go walking: AI, EA, OA, OE, UI. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRACTICE ALL OF YOUR OLD FLASHCARDS - ESPECIALLY THOSE YOUR CHILD IS STILL STRUGGLING WITH - I WILL BE ASSESSING THIS WEEK!
Phonemic Awareness: Please work with your child on the following Phonemic Awareness skills - rhyming, blending, segmenting, syllables, and beginning/middle/ending sounds.
Reading: Play Smarty Ants for 10-15 minutes each night. In addition to Smarty Ants, we ask that you read your Book Bag every night. This includes: fluency passage, paper books, and library books.
Writing: Write every day in your at-home journal. You should be writing AT LEAST three sentences every day, with a goal of a five sentence paragraph.
Math: Play Dreambox for 10-15 minutes each night. Continue to discuss ways to make 5 (and ways to make 10!), numbers in base ten (in the number 16, how many tens and how many ones?), addition and subtraction number problems and word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, and the Doubles Song.Count the money in your bank.
Turn-in Homework: Write three to five sentences what we are learning about George Washington. Draw a picture to go with your sentences. Remember that turn-in homework is the ONLY homework we ask that you turn in and is due any day this week.
